It’s that time of year again, and MGM National Harbor is working with BetMGM Poker to bring this series to the masses again this summer.

2025 Potomac Poker Open Details

It starts on Wednesday, August 13, and it will run through Monday, August 25. Nearly two weeks of live poker tournaments will run daily, all with guarantees, and even kicking off with a freeroll. First, the bullet point basics:

There are several featured events to mention here. 

Pride of the Lions Freeroll

How many live tournament series offer freerolls? This one does! Event 1 is a freeroll to reward MGM regulars, a one-day No Limit Hold’em tournament on August 13 at noon. Players must receive an invitation to play or show proof of playing in the last Potomac Poker Open (PPO) or Potomac Winter Poker Open (PWPO) in 2024 or 2025. As a member of the MGM Rewards program, records will show your participation, and you’re in.

The prize pool consists of several entries to the 2025 PPO – two seats to the $4,000 High Roller, two seats to the $3,000 Main Event, and five seats to the $600 Opener.

MGM National Harbor Potomac Poker Open Main Event

The highlight of the Potomac Poker Open will be the Main Event, a No Limit Hold’em set as Event 16 on the schedule.

• Starting days:  Friday, August 22 & Saturday, Aug 23 at 11 a.m.
• Day 2:  Sunday, August 24 at 12 p.m.
• Final table:  Monday, August 25 at 1 p.m.
• Buy-in:  $3,000
• Chips:  60,000
• Guarantee:  $1,000,000

There will be satellites running in the poker room. Super satellites are listed on the schedule for $250 with $140 rebuys August 20-22 with 5-10 seats guaranteed. 

Series Highlights

In addition to the freeroll and Main Event, there are other tournaments of note on the schedule. There are Omaha and mixed games on tap, as well as turbo structures and deepstacks. Here are some of the events that will surely garner interest:

• Event 2:  $600 buy-in NLHE Opener with seven flights ($750,000 guaranteed)
• Event 5:  $400 buy-in NLHE Super Seniors for players 60+ ($10,000 guaranteed)
• Event 8:  $500 buy-in NLHE Monumental Stacks with two flights ($150,000 guaranteed)
• Event 11:  $400 buy-in NLHE Seniors for players 50+ ($30,000 guaranteed)
• Event 12:  $4,000 buy-in NLHE High Roller ($100,000 guaranteed)
• Event 21:  $300 buy-in NLHE Women ($10,000 guaranteed)
• Event 22:  $300 buy-in Charity Series of Poker with $100 rebuys
