On March 22, 2023, BetMGM announced that the BetMGM Poker Championship would be taking place again in 2023 at the ARIA Resort. This tournament featured multiple events catering to a variety of players and received an incredible response from the community.

Speaking to Poker.org in the article “BetMGM Poker Championship to welcome record attendance,” BetMGM Senior Manager of Poker Marketing Will O’Connor shared how they had increased the number of online poker players who can qualify for the $3,500 Main Event and the $800 Mystery Bounty to roughly 148. For the 2022 event, this number was 66, meaning that this number had more than doubled.

Marked Improvement

Connor unpacked how this welcome record attendance was achieved in the following statement: “…that’s just a credit to not only having just a better handle of the planning and execution of all of this but also a better promotional suite and a better tournament schedule than we did last year. Like I’ve been saying, it’s just a marked improvement from a year ago when we first partnered with Aria for this event.”

Some big names in poker, as well as other celebrities, attended the BetMGM Poker Championship, including Darren Elias, Stephen Song and former MLB player Jason Kipnis.

Guaranteed Prize Pools

Play at the BetMGM Poker Championship began on June 8th with a Mystery Bounty event with a guaranteed prize of $150,000 and will end on July 15th with a Pot Luck Omaha Mix game with $50,000 guaranteed. Many poker games are taking place over its duration, including No-Limit hold’em games, Limit Omaha games and specific events for seniors.

The Main Event had a guaranteed prize pool of $2 million and took place over four days between June 9th and June 13th. The action from the final table on the 13th took place inside the ARIA’s PokerGo Studio, allowing the final game to be streamed around the world. Leo Taffe, an online poker player from Michigan, was crowned winner of the final poker game and took home $560,442.

Responsible Gambling

As BetMGM continues to expand to new jurisdictions with its online slots and other online casino games, responsible gaming education remains a key focus. BetMGM is proud to provide resources to help customers play responsibly, including GameSense, an industry-leading program developed and licensed to MGM Resorts by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. Through the integration within BetMGM’s mobile and desktop platforms, customers can receive the same GameSense experience they have grown to count on at MGM Resorts properties nationwide. This complements BetMGM’s already existing responsible gaming tools, which serve to provide customers with an entertaining and safe digital experience.
