Welcome 2025 with the New Year’s Knockout Series at BetMGM Poker

As 2024 begins to wind down and the new year is on the horizon, why not enjoy the downtime with some online poker!

BetMGM Poker knows that poker players want some action at this time of year. Most live poker is on a holiday hiatus, and many players are spending some quality time with their friends and families. But a lack of competitive poker and a need for the online tournament action rush builds up, and players need an outlet. Enter the annual New Year’s Knockout Series.

What is the New Year’s Knockout Series at BetMGM Poker?

BetMGM Poker is hosting the annual and increasingly popular New Year’s Knockout Series for poker players located within the states of New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. (Keep in mind that you don’t need to reside there — just be physically located there when you play.)

While the “knockout” part of the title can signify knocking 2024 off the calendar, it officially signifies the nature of the tournaments in the series. The events are all PKOs, or progressive knockouts. This means that every tournament puts a portion of the poker buy-in (usually 50%) toward the prize pool and a designated amount (the other 50%) toward player bounties.

Progressive knockout formats indicate progressively increasing bounties. For example, if Player Jane eliminates Player Joe, Jane wins half of Joe’s bounty, and the other half is added to the bounty on Jane’s head. If Player Pat comes along and eliminates Jane, Pat wins half of Jane’s current bounty, and the other half adds to Pat’s own bounty. And on it goes.

New Year’s Knockout Series Details

The BetMGM Poker New Year’s Knockout Series begins on Sunday, December 29. It runs through Sunday, January 5. There are 17 tournaments in total, which means that most days offer at least two tournaments.

Most events are Hold’em, with a little Omaha poker thrown in for good measure, but the formats vary, as some feature six-max tables and others deep starting stacks. As for buy-ins, they range from $25 to $250, with most of them at the $100 level or lower, and each event boasts of a prize pool guarantee. There are reentries offered, too. But there is one exception to the buy-in range, and that is a freeroll in the mix.

  • Event 6 on December 31:  Freeroll for series players
    • $10,000 in the prize pool for New Jersey and Michigan players
    • $5,000 guaranteed for Pennsylvania players.

Keep in mind that both tournaments have a cap on the number of entries allowed, so when you obtain your freeroll ticket, register as soon as you can!
