Major League Baseball stars will be playing the Borgata Poker Open Bounty Shootout, as content creators and players take over at the Borgata.
It can be tough to keep up with everything happening at the Borgata Poker Open powered by BetMGM Poker in Atlantic City. People have their own poker to play and jobs to work, families to care for and lives to lead. That’s why we’re here, as it is our job to sum up the happenings at the BPO for easy digestion, like a fine digestivo after a good meal.
A few days ago, we recapped some of the recent Borgata Poker Open winners but let’s get into the top five things to know about the BPO now that the series is past the halfway point.
1. Foul Territory Show Takeover Set For Thursday, September 12
The commonalities between poker and sports are well known. The love of competition has long brought world-renowned footballers, tennis legends, and basketball pros to the poker tables. This week, baseball and poker collide at the Borgata Poker Open.
Notables from Foul Territory, a live daily baseball show with hosts and guests from the world of Major League Baseball, will not only bring their virtual clubhouse to the Borgata Event Center on Thursday, September 12, they will also play in the King of Poker Progressive Bounty Shootout.
Major League Baseball Players Are in the Building
The Foul Territory show will broadcast episodes live from the Borgata Poker Open, and quite a number of hosts and guests will then play in Event 23. The initial list includes Scott Braun, Erik Kratz, Todd Frazier, Dellin Betances, Grant Balfour, Andruw Jones, Cameron Maybin, Brett Myers, and Ruben Amaro Jr. Take a look:
Tournament Info
The tournament is Event 23 on the Borgata Poker Open schedule and is officially called the King of Poker Progressive Bounty Shootout. The buy-in is $220, with $150 of that sum going to the prize pool, $20 to that player’s bounty, $40 in registration fees, and a $10 voluntary add-on. The tournament begins at 3:15 p.m.
A shootout format makes every table a sit-n-go, essentially.
- Tables of 10 players will begin Round 1 with each player possessing a $20 bounty to go to the player that busts them from the tournament.
- When two players remain at a table, they will stop play and start a new table for Round 2 at approximately 8:15 p.m.
- The final three players from each of those tables will start Round 3 around 10:15 p.m., with everyone in the money and holding a $500 bounty.
Note that there are unlimited reentries, but players who reenter will be seated at a new table. And once a player progresses to Round 2, they no longer have the option to reenter.
Players who knock out Foul Territory-affiliated players will receive, in addition to the bounty, a signed baseball from that Major League Baseball player. And all Round 1 players will be eligible to win BetMGM swag and online poker tournament tickets.
The winner of the entire tournament will be the King (or Queen) of Poker with a custom trophy to prove it. They will also receive a complimentary seat (worth $3,500) to the Borgata Poker Open Championship event that runs this week.
2. Will the Almighty Million Event Prove Almighty?
Event 17 on the Borgata Poker Open schedule is the much-anticipated Almighty Million, a $500 buy-in tournament with five starting flights and a massive $1,000,000 guarantee.
The first four flights have shown big numbers thus far:
- Day 1A: 450 entries with 70 remaining
- Day 1B: 327 entries with 46 remaining
- Day 1C: 502 entries with 85 remaining
- Day 1D: 441 entries with 71 remaining
That totals 1,720 entries, and with $420 of every $500 going to the prize pool, it puts the prize pool at $722,400 before Day 1E gets underway. They’re looking at a big crowd for the final flight, but will it be enough to cover the million dollar guarantee? Cue the dramatic music! 3. Livestreams Bring the Heat
Gorilla Gaming has been bringing the livestream action from the BPO, and poker fans have been tuning in to watch familiar faces and pick up a few tips while watching hours of poker play.
Tuesday night delivered the ultimate action with $10/$10 Pot Limit Omaha livestream, complete with New York and New Jersey players looking for PLO fun. Each of the players bought in for $3,000. Jeremy Geist and Chris Land held it down in the commentators’ booth for more than five hours.
Tonight, the BetMGM YouTube channel will feature the conclusion of Event 19, the $1,730 buy-in Heads-Up Championship tournament. When the Luis Ortiz versus Frank Lagodich and Derek Sudell versus Edward Leonard matches end, the final two players will battle it out on the livestream for all to watch.
After that, more livestream action awaits through the weekend:
- Thursday, Sept. 12 (5 p.m. – 11 p.m. ET): $10,000/no max NLHE High Roller cash game
- Friday, Sept. 13 (starting at 12:15 p.m. ET): Event 17 (Almighty Million) final table

4. Household Names in the House
With the Borgata Poker Open Championship Main Event starting this week, as well as the $10,000 High Roller Experience and numerous other tournaments on tap, players are descending upon Atlantic City to participate. Quite a few big names are in on the action, from Darren Elias to Cherish Andrews, Joe McKeehen to Nancy Birnbaum, and Ari Engel to Allen Kessler.
Speaking of Kessler, he finished third in the Dealer’s Choice Championship and seems to be happy with the series and the plethora of mixed games.
5. @abbypoker is Everywhere
Content creators are everywhere but few as well-traveled and energetic as Abby Merk. As she left a recent job in Barcelona, Spain, she arrived at Borgata to work more.
Today, she took over the BetMGM Poker Instagram account and even collaborated with fellow content creator @brantzenpoker for a musical number.
Stay tuned, as these two will be offering up some funny bits throughout the remainder of the Borgata Poker Open. And to play legal online poker, register with BetMGM Poker.
