The process of picking up tells is much different in online poker than live poker. Because we cannot see our physical opponents in online poker, we are limited in the amount of information we can use. The two biggest tells in online poker are timing and bet sizing.  

Timing comes down to how long players are taking to make a decision. Oftentimes a player acting quickly or slowly can convey the strength of their hand. Bet sizing tells come from people falling into certain patterns and choosing certain bet sizes with hands of different strength. Some players may always click pot with strong hands and half pot with weak hands, which is an example of an online poker tell.  

There is much more information available in the live arena and the game becomes more rich and complex. However, that doesn’t mean tells can’t be used in the online game as well if we pay attention.
